Senior nutrition programs available in eight Washington County locations

September 12, 2008

In addition to the newly opened multiservice Washington County Senior Center at Girls Inc., 626 Washington Ave. in Hagerstown, there are seven senior nutrition sites throughout the county. Those sites provide congregate meals in centers near senior housing, often with a program offered with the meal.

Susan MacDonald, executive director for the Washington County Commission on Aging, said the new multiservice center offers a different focus than the nutrition sites and will not replace the senior nutrition sites.

She said the new downtown Hagerstown center, which is open Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., provides a gathering spot for active residents 55 and older looking to be involved in the community. It is also a "one-stop shop" for senior services in the county.

More information on the senior nutrition sites or the new multiservice senior center can be obtained by calling WCCOA at 301-790-0275 or going to www.wccoaging.org.
