Fire company gets new truck

On Sept. 4, three Maugansville Volunteer Fire Co. members flew to Appleton, Wis., for a final inspection of the new Pierce firetruck.

The team inspected the apparatus for any flaws and developed a list of corrections to be made. The workers at the factory made all of the corrections. Later that evening, the team conducted a reinspection and issued a satisfactory status on the vehicle.

The following morning, the team departed the factory and drove the unit back to Maugansville. At approximately 10 p.m. Friday evening, the new engine made it back to its new home.

The company encourages everyone to stop by the fire station and take a peek. Thanks goes out to Greg Price, of West Potomac/Singer Associates for his assistance in developing the specifications and assuring the station received the best firetruck for the money.

In other news:

  • The Maugansville Fire Co. would like to thank the Maugansville Ruritan Club and all patrons who attended Maugansville Pride Day on Aug. 30.

It was a very successful event for the fire company and hopefully for the Ruritan Club as well.

The fire company had about 38 members assist throughout the day in making and selling fresh-cut french fries, playing the ring toss game for candy, goldfish game, fire prevention display and safety trailer, and last but certainly not least, the car smash.

  • There will be no chicken barbecue this month at the fire station as previously advertised.

  • Time is running out on a chance to get a Maugansville Fire Co. gun/money raffle ticket. The drawing is Sept. 27 at the Williamsport Red Men Club. Contact any fire company member or call the fire station to get tickets.

  • During the month of July, the Maugansville Fire Co. averaged 12.9 firefighters per call.

  • Chris Baer was recently deployed to Iraq. He is serving in the U.S. Air Force.

    Bluegrass gospel

Mt. Zion Church, at 14336 Greencastle Pike, will host a concert Sunday at 2 p.m, given by Guilford Station, a bluegrass gospel group.

Refreshments will be served. A goodwill offering will be collected for the group during a short intermission. A basket will be placed in front of the church if you would like to make a contribution to the cemetery maintenance fund.
