Hickory Elementary School in Halfway wins national award

Hickory Elementary School has been named a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education.

Hickory was one of six Maryland schools nominated for the honor, and all of them were named National Blue Ribbon Schools, according to a press release.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools program recognizes schools that make significant progress in closing the achievement gap or whose students achieve at very high levels. More than 300 schools were named as national winners.

The other national winners from Maryland included Cresaptown Elementary School in Allegany County, Cecil Elementary School in Baltimore City, Broadneck Elementary School in Anne Arundel County, Piney Ridge Elementary School in Carroll County and Hickory Elementary School in Harford County, according to the release.
