Around Funkstown

September 09, 2008|By SUSIE HOFFMAN / 301-790-2413

Weather holds

So we meet again. Do you have your coffee in hand and ready to catch up?

September is coming along quite nicely. A tad warm in the beginning, but I would never even contemplate a smidge of a complaint. The longer this weather holds, the longer we go with windows wide open and no heat. There is always a bright side and I prefer to live on that side of the street.

AARP meeting

The Washington County Chapter of the AARP is resuming its monthly meetings today at Next Dimensions Restaurant on Alternate U.S. 40. The meeting begins at 1:30 p.m. Frank Woodring from Cracker Barrel magazine will be the guest speaker.

Bargain sale

Fall is just the best time of year. Back to school, football, and the fall bargain sale at the Women's Club on South Prospect Street. The event will be Friday, Oct. 3, and Saturday, Oct. 4, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be gently used clothing, shoes, handbags, jewelry and household items for sale.

The dining room at the club will host a used book sale sponsored by AAUW.

Tables to rent

It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas ... everywhere you turn ... OK, so not really even a bit, but that's a way to get everyone thinking about Funkstown's Old Tyme Christmas.

This year it will be on Dec. 12, and there are tables available for craft vendors at the fire hall. Tables cost $10. Call Rose Gaver at 301-739-4212 to reserve a table.
