CHAMBERBSURG, Pa. -- Juries were selected Monday in Franklin County Court for three men charged in unrelated rape cases.

  • Sean Nolan Connor, 36, of 67 North Ave., Chambersburg, will be tried Oct. 6 on charges of rape of an unconscious victim, burglary, indecent assault and sexual assault in one case; and forcible rape, sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and indecent assault in another.

Conner will be tried before Judge John Walker, Assistant District Attorney Lauren Sulcove said.

The affidavits of probable cause stated that two women and Connor were at a Chambersburg bar on June 9, 2007, and that he accompanied them back to the one woman's home on Mont Alto Road.

One woman, a 33-year-old from Shippensburg, Pa., knew Connor, Pennsylvania State Police said. The 27-year-old who lived on Mont Alto Road had not met him before that night, police said.

At about 6 a.m., Connor asked the Shippensburg woman to give him a ride back to his vehicle at Razzle's in Chambersburg, police said. Once in the vehicle, however, he forced her to have sexual intercourse, police said.

One affidavit stated that the woman drove Connor to Chambersburg and he told her he needed to return to the Mont Alto Road house to get his cell phone.

The other woman told police she was passed out, but awoke to find Connor having sexual intercourse with her. The Shippensburg woman told police that the 27-year-old was passed out and was in no condition to have consensual sex, according to the affidavit.

  • Marcus James Riley, 21, of 227 S. Fayette St., Mercersburg, Pa., is charged by state police with rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, indecent assault, sexual assault, simple assault, burglary, criminal trespass, criminal mischief, aggravated assault and harassment. Sulcove said his trial is scheduled for Sept. 29 before Judge Carol Van Horn.

Riley is charged with breaking into the Hamilton Township home of his ex-girlfriend on Jan. 17. Police said Riley smashed a window with a rock, went inside, and beat and raped the 18-year-old woman.

Sulcove said Riley will be tried at the same time on charges of simple assault and harassment from a Nov. 12, 2007, incident involving the woman. In that case, Greencastle, Pa., police said the woman let him into an apartment on South Carlisle Street and he punched her repeatedly in the face.

  • Clayton D. Tavenner, 33, of 3426 Scar Hill Road, Waynesboro, Pa., is charged with raping a 12-year-old girl on New Year's Day. Sulcove said his trial is scheduled for Oct. 15 before Van Horn.

Tavenner also is charged by Waynesboro police with statutory sexual assault, sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, endangering the welfare of a child and aggravated indecent assault of a child.
