Predictions for the 2008 season

Predictions for the 2008 season

September 09, 2008|By ROBERT KELLER / Pulse Correspondent

The 2008 NFL season opened this weekend with some pretty interesting match-ups and some major news stories. One story in particular being Chad Ocho Cinco (formerly known as Chad Johnson) and the injured New England quarterback, Tom Brady.

This week, reigning Super Bowl champions the New York Giants opened up in New York against Washington. They came out and in their first drive showed why they won the Super Bowl last year. Quarterback Eli Manning rushed for a touchdown and put the Giants up 7-0. The Redskins failed to answer on their next drive and the Giants continued to dominate, defeating the Redskins 16-7.

I predict these winners for this week's games:

o Baltimore over Houston

o Washington over New Orleans

o Arizona over Miami

o Pittsburgh over Cleveland

Baltimore has shown that its defense and offense will no longer struggle this season. Washington will finally figure its offense out and be able to score the touchdowns that it needs. Arizona has shown that it is ready to be a playoff caliber team. Pittsburgh is just good this season.

For all the Ravens fans out there, I don't think there is any doubt left on your mind about quarterback Joe Flacco. He came out against the Bengals and showed that, although he is a rookie, he can move the ball and stay consistent. He threw no interceptions and rushed for an amazing 38-yard touchdown. His versatility in the pocket and his presence showed that he deserves to be out on the field. Although he didn't complete very many passes, he had no turnovers and controlled the offense the whole game. If he starts the rest of the season, I'd have no problem with it.
