Hagerstown ballet company to hold 'Nutcracker' auditions

The Potomac Classical Youth Ballet Company, under the artistic direction of Lauran Clowser, will hold auditions on Sunday, Sept. 14, for the 11th annual "Nutcracker" performance at The Maryland Theatre in downtown Hagerstown.

"The Nutcracker" performances will be Saturday, Dec. 6, and Sunday, Dec. 7.

Auditions will be held at the City Ballet School in the Elizabeth Hager Center at 14 N. Potomac St. in downtown Hagerstown.

The audition schedule is as follows:

1 to 2:30 p.m. - Dancers 10 years old to adult or anyone presently on pointe

2:30 to 3:30 p.m. - Dancers 8 to 10 years old and who have not danced on pointe

3:30 to 4:30 p.m. - Dancers 5 to 7 years old

Age is determined as the age on the day of the audition.

Dancers must be at least 5 years old by Sept. 14 to audition. Dancers do not have to be affiliated with the City Ballet School or PCYBC to audition.


All dancers younger than 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

All dancers must be studying ballet. Adults need no prior dance training.

Dancers should arrive at least 20 minutes prior to their audition time to fill out paperwork and should wear appropriate ballet attire.

Girls should bring pointe shoes if they have had previous training on pointe.

There is an audition fee of $10.
