Lincoln Memorial 2, Shepherd 1

HARROGATE, Tenn. -- Lincoln Memorial University, the nation's top-ranked Division II team, edged Shepherd University in the Rams' opener.

Lincoln took a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute when Brito Martins scored on a feed from William Moura.

The Rams tied the score when junior Jeffers Frazier scored on a header off a long direct kick by senior defender Darnell Spruell in the 70th minute.

The Railsplitters broke the tie in the 87th minute when Robbie Curtis scored with assists from James McLeish and Moura.

Senior goalie Wagner Dacosta made eight saves for the Rams.


Grier closes with a 75

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Ashley Grier of Hagerstown finished in a tie for 57th place in the Duramed FUTURES Tour ILOVENY Championship on Sunday.


After rounds of 71 and 78, Grier ended the tournament with a 3-over-par 75 on the Capital Hills course for an 11-over 224 total, 20 shots behind the winner, Sara-Jane Kenyon of Australia, who posted a 204.


South Mountain 7.5-Mile

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -- William Weech, representing the National Capital Velo Club, won the South Mountain Mass Start 7.5-Mile Hill Climb in 26 minutes, 10 seconds.

Mike Spinnler, representing the Antietam Velo Club/Hagerstown-Washington County Tourism, finished third in 26:56. Gordon, also representing the AVC, finished sixth in 28:28 in his first race since back surgery seven weeks ago.

The race was the last in the six-race South Mountain Hill Climb Series. Brian Fouche, 25, representing the AVC, won the series by posting the fastest single-race time of 24:28 on July 27.
