FREDERICK, Md. - On Aug. 3, 80 adults and children participated in the annual Foster Family Picnic sponsored by the Frederick County Foster/Adoptive Parent Association in conjunction with the Frederick County Department of Social Services.
The annual summertime event was held at the AMVETS Post 2 Farm in Frederick. The Sons of AMVETS provided food for the picnic. Everyone enjoyed the food, fellowship and fun.
The children had games, prizes and treat bags. There was a Civil War display, karaoke and a moon bounce. All foster and kinship families were eligible to win a special raffle of a weekend getaway, compliments of the Maryland Department of Human Resources and Frederick County DSS. The weekend Getaway winner was Chip Kraft.
Debbie Redmond, with the help of her husban,d Mark, has coordinated the summer picnic for the past 15 years.
"We have loved doing this for the kids," Debbie Redmond said. The Redmonds are retiring from this position and were honored, along with the AMVETS Post 2, for their undaunted service to foster care in Frederick County. The Redmonds have been foster parents for 18 years, providing care mainly for teenage boys.
