Fall Gardening 101 classes scheduled

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Franklin County Extension will present Fall Gardening 101, a series of workshops designed to provide basic gardening information and hands-on experiences for new gardeners or a refresher course for seasoned gardeners.

Some workshops include projects to take home. Workshops take place at Franklin County Extension, 181 Franklin Farm Lane. Saturday classes are from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Registration costs $5 per person, per workshop.

· Today, Saturday, Sept. 6 - Learn how, when and where to plant bulbs for a successful show of color for the entire gardening season, as well as bulb maintenance and lesser known bulbs. Ag Heritage building, rooms 5 and 6.

· Saturday, Oct. 4 - Learn the basics of installing and establishing a water feature from master gardeners. Plants, fish and wildlife will be included in the discussion. Ag Heritage building, rooms 5 and 6.

· Saturday, Nov. 1 - Tree and shrub fall garden tour with Elmer Greey, Franklin County Master Gardener. Greey will host a tree and shrub garden tour at his home. This is an opportunity to see more than 600 woody ornamentals between 1 and 20 years old, winter flowering trees and shrubs. Learn pruning suggestions, pushing climatic parameters, landscape suggestions and how to select four-season plants. Elmer Greey's home, 8690 Rice Road, Shippensburg, Pa.

· Saturday, Dec. 6 - Class participants will create a holiday centerpiece with candles, a variety of cut evergreens and other natural elements. Container, greens, candles and ribbons will be provided, but feel free to bring your own personal touches and a pair of shears. Class is taught by Chris Mayer, Franklin County Master Gardener. Ag heritage building, rooms 7 and 8.
