Maryland man found dead on I-70

September 05, 2008

FREDERICK, Md. -- A 73-year-old man was pronounced dead Wednesday after he was found lying near a car on the shoulder of Interstate 70, Maryland State Police said in a news release.

Louis Josephson of Arnold, Md., was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at about 10:03 p.m., police said. Police said his death likely was caused by a pre-existing medical condition.

The situation was reported at 9:10 p.m., and troopers found Josephson lying on the ground next to a gold Kia Optima on the shoulder of eastbound I-70 near Spring Ridge Parkway, police said. Troopers began CPR and emergency medical services personnel arrived and began to treat him, police said.

Police said Josephson had pulled over to the right shoulder, where his car made minor contact with the guardrail. The collision was not a factor in his death, police said.
