Wellness, disease prevention workshops

Grace United Methodist Church will host two wellness and disease prevention workshops on Sept. 10, starting at 7 p.m. 

 Both workshops will be presented by Dr. Linda Solomon a volunteer with Foundation for Wellness Professions, an nonprofit organization promoting wellness and disease prevention.

 The first workshop is "Arthritis: Alternative Approaches to Preventing and Relieving Joint Disease."  The workshop will educate regarding arthritis, who is susceptible, causes, relief and prevention. 

 The second workshop is "Pressure Point Therapy, Learn How to Relieve Pain Naturally."  The workshop will teach the participants techniques for relieve pressure, pain reduction and health improvement.


 Grace United Methodist Church is encouraging participants to contribute $10 toward the workshops, however in the event that you are unable to contribute your still encouraged to attend.

Puttin' for Paws golf event

 Greg and Ruth Smith of What A Tan, along with the Humane Society of Washington County, will host the inaugural Puttin' for Paws Captain's Choice Best Ball Scramble at Black Rock Golf Course on Sept. 10.

 Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and a shotgun start will be at 8:30 a.m.  Registration will be $300 per foursome. Participants are also welcome to register by calling the Humane Society at 301-733-2060, ext. 237 or go to on the Web.

 J Edward Cochran & Co. is sponsoring a $10,000 Putt for Cash for golfers to "Beat the Pro," Tim Reeves, Black Rock Golf Course director of instruction.  Prizes will be award for closest to the pin and longest drive. Door prizes will be awarded.
