BOONSBORO - The eagerly awaited report chronicling the first year of activities for the Boonsboro Recycling Task Force began on a high note Tuesday night with an impressive list of accomplishments.
It concluded with a big question mark - will curbside recycling be possible and can the residents afford it?
"We have come a long way in a year but are anxious to go further with curbside recycling," said Rosemary James, who presented the report to the Boonsboro mayor and council.
So far, she said:
o A recycling bin has been re-established at Alt. U.S. 40 and Md. 67 and is monitored daily.
o Boonsboro High School is recycling again, and the middle and elementary schools are expected to join the effort soon.
o Bins for recyclables are available at events, including this weekend's Boonesborough Days.
o Many businesses and churches have gone "green" in their operations and activities.
But there are still problems to iron out. Mayor Charles F. "Skip" Kauffman Jr. pointed out he has received about a dozen calls from residents who say they will not pay for curbside recycling.
