Garden Club plans meeting

The Clear Spring Garden Club is looking for new members. The club will meet Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ in Clear Spring.

The guest speaker will be Judy Larkin, "The Tea Lady," who is a native of Manchester, England. She will entertain with stories of how tea drinking got started and how it progressed to the present. Members and guests are invited. There is a $10 charge for guests, which will be dropped if the guest signs up to be a member. Membership is $12. Please send reservations for the meeting to Clear Spring Garden Club, P.O. Box 173, Clear Spring, MD 21722. Tea and refreshments will be served.

Class of 1972 to hold picnic

The Clear Spring High School class of 1972 will have a picnic for class members and their families on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 1 p.m. at Camp Harding in Pecktonville, Md. Chicken, crabs, ice tea, lemonade and place settings will be provided. There is no charge, but classmates are asked to bring a hot and cold covered dish and their high school memorabilia.

Exercise classes planned in town

The Washington County Recreation Department will hold exercise classes at Clear Spring Middle School on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Classes begin Sept. 9 and run through Dec. 11. There will be no class Nov. 27.

The classes will be taught by certified instructor Karen Humbertson. She uses low-impact aerobics and adds toning and stretching for a complete body makeover. The classes cost $45 for Washington County residents and $55 for nonresidents. The classes cost $36 for those 55 and older. Concert planned

It's about time again for the Lewis Family in concert at Clear Spring High School, sponsored by FFA and FFA Alumni. Something new this year - there will be an opening act by the local group Not Forgotten. The Lewis Family, from Lincolnton, Ga., plays bluegrass and gospel music.

The date to remember is Friday, Sept. 12. The doors will open at 5 p.m. Not Forgotten will play at 7 p.m. and the Lewis Family will follow at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets costs $10 or $12 at the door.

Pancake breakfast

Don't forget the Clear Spring High School Athletic Boosters' pancake and sausage breakfast on Saturday at the high school.

The breakfast will be from 7 to 11 a.m. Tickets costs $3.50 for adults and $2.50 for students. Those younger than school age will be admitted free. Tickets are available from any CSHS athlete, coaches, parents, or they will also be available at the door. Proceeds will benefit CSHS athletics.

Did You Know?

Did you know that 129 Cumberland St. (the building with the round roof) was where World War I soldiers hung out? It was a WWI canteen and later for a short time was a library.
