Pooch Plunge set for Wednesday

Labor Day is a mark for the end of many things ... the end of summer (unofficially), the end of wearing white shoes (although I think that may be a thing of the past now) and the end of lazy days by the pool.

How about one more dip before we close things down? Not for you, of course, but for your pooch. The annual Pooch Plunge at Potterfield Pool to benefit the Humane Society of Washington County and Charlie's Fund will be Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. The pool is on Frederick Street and admission for one dog and one handler is $5. Additional handers and pets will cost $3. This will be an evening of games and contests ... who says things are going to the dogs.

Frostburg to honor Wolfe

I adore happy stories about local young men and women who are making their mark in this world. Gary Wolfe II is doing just that. Getting his start at National Little League and continuing his game through his teen years, Gary has realized a very big accomplishment. This past spring Gary was named honorable mention in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference for his skills on the diamond. Gary is attending Frostburg State and will be honored at the annual Jim Anderson Memorial Baseball Breakfast in October on Homecoming Saturday. Gary was selected to receive the Ken Mann Most Valuable Pitcher Award.

Yard sale

Don't forget another end of summer happening that is upon us quickly. The St. Paul's yard sale will be held Saturday. There is still time to reserve your space to clean out your no longer needed treasures and share them with others. If you are looking for something fun and hopefully useful or just plain interesting, stop by and take a peek at the bargains from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
