County students attend leadership conference

Thirty-four middle and high school students from across Washington County participated in Maryland Leadership Workshops Inc.'s fourth annual Washington County Leadership Conference at Fairview Outdoor Education Center in Clear Spring Aug. 11 and 12.

The program provides opportunities for middle and high school students from across Maryland to discover and strengthen individual and group leadership skills, program president Ron Dhindsa said in a prepared release.

During the program, students identify their leadership skills, strengths and weaknesses in an environment intended to increase self-esteem and confidence.

The program's goal is to equip students with leadership skills to enhance their schools and communities.

The program is designed for experienced student leaders and those who show motivation to lead in their homes, schools and communities, the release states

Maryland Leadership Workshops is a nonprofit educational organization that has been providing leadership training programs to Maryland middle school and high school students since 1956.

It works in partnership with the Maryland Association of Student Councils, Leadership Maryland and the Maryland State Department of Education.
