Library to host reading event

Washington County Free Library and the Maryland Center for the Book, a program of The Maryland Humanities Council invite you to become a part of Maryland's statewide community reading program - One Maryland One Book.

Pick up a copy of this year's selected book, "A Hope in the Unseen," by Ron Suskind, to read and plan to participate in some or all of the related programs happening in Washington County in September and October.

"A Hope in the Unseen" chronicles Cedric Jennings' journey from his high school in one of Washington, D.C.'s most dangerous neighborhoods to Brown University.

Jennings will be speaking at Hagerstown Community College's Kepler Theatre on Friday, Sept. 19, at 11 a.m. This program is free and open to the public.

You are invited to bring your copy of the book for autographing. A limited number of books will be available for purchase after the talk. Call 301-739-3250, ext. 186 for information.

A community conversation based on this book will be held at the Washington County Free Library at 100 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown, Thursday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. Seating is limited. Please call 301-739-3250, ext. 136 to reserve a seat at this discussion.
