Hawks split two matches

PERRYSBURG, Ohio -- Hagerstown Community College swept Mott Community College 25-14, 25-12, 25-18 before falling to Jackson Community College 25-19, 25-19, 25-22 at a mixer at Owens Community College on Sunday.

Tara Garver led the Hawks (4-4) with 46 assists. Moreno Ribeiro had 16 kills and nine digs, while Rebecca Morgan had 15 kills and 14 digs. Katie Koontz had nine kills, Julia Becker had eight kills and Hailee Growden added seven digs.


Graham-Gray finishes second

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Susan Graham-Gray, 40, of Greencastle, Pa., finished second Saturday in the 36th annual Charleston 15-Mile Distance Run.

Graham-Gray, representing the Cumberland Valley Athletic Club, completed the course in 1 hour, 36 minutes, 50 seconds and won $800.

Maria Busieni was the winner, finishing in 1:33:34. She won $1,200.


Spinnler places 22nd

CLARKS VALLEY, Pa. -- Hagerstown's Mike Spinnler, 50, finished 22nd overall Sunday in the Pennsylvania Elite Time Trial Championships, a 40-kilometer race.


Spinnler, representing the Antietam Velo Club, finished in 59:11. Ken Johnson of Washington won the race in 52:46.


St. James finishes 5th

WASHINGTON -- St. James opened its season by going 2-1 over the weekend in the Fragile X Tournament at St. John's College High School.

The Saints lost their first match Saturday to Elizabeth Seton, 3-0. They beat St. Gertrude's 2-0 as Gina Hontz scored two goals and Nicole Hause added an assist.

St. James beat St. John's College 2-1 in overtime, with Hontz scoring the winning goal on a penalty stroke. Hause also scored for the Saints.

Hontz was named to the all-tournament team.
