A man robbed the M&T Bank branch at 10721 Fairway Lane off Oak Ridge Drive near Hagerstown on Saturday morning, Sgt. Chris Howard of the Washington County Sheriff's Department said.
The robbery occurred at 10:30 a.m., Howard said. There were no customers in the bank at the time and no employees were injured, he said.
The man presented a note to employees demanding money, then fled on foot toward a housing development behind the bank, Howard said.
The robber, who did not display a weapon, took an undisclosed amount of cash, Howard said.
The man was described as a black male in his late 30s to early 40s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing 150 pounds, and wearing a black baseball cap, a black bandanna, dark sunglasses and a gray T-shirt, Howard said.
