August 29, 2008

Mary Anne Burke has been named interim executive director of the Washington County Arts Council, said Donna Newcomer, president of the arts council's board of directors.

Burke will assume the position on Oct. 1, Newcomer said in a press release. She will serve as interim executive director until a permanent director is found, Newcomer said.

Burke replaces Kevin Moriarty, who announced his resignation from the executive director post on Aug. 8. Moriarty had held the position since June 2004.

A graduate student at Mountain State University, Burke has extensive business, volunteer and community experience, according to the release.

Formally incorporated in 1968, the Washington County Arts Council was founded to aid and advise the cultural arts in Washington County and to integrate the arts into the total life of the communities it serves, according to the release.
