August 27, 2008

EASTLAKE, Ohio - Juan Valdes' three-run home run capped a six-run third inning, and Lake County held Hagerstown to four hits in the Captains' 8-1 victory in the South Atlantic League on Tuesday night.

Karexon Sanchez, Matt McBride, Matt Brown, Adam Davis and Jeffrey Hehr each hit singles earlier in the third inning before Valdes took Suns starter Bradley Meyers deep to right for a 7-0 lead.

Lake County took a 1-0 lead in the second when Brown reached on shortstop Jose Lodaza's error and scored on Valdes' sacrifice fly.

The Suns got on the board in the sixth when Mark Gildea walked, went to third when Lozada's grounder was booted by Captains shortstop Mark Thompson, and scored on Garrett Bass' single.

The Captains capped the scoring in the seventh when Davis doubled to right and scored on Valdes' single as Valdes drove in the last of his five runs.

Captains starter Ryan Morris (9-5) earned the win with five innings of no-hit ball. He walked two - both in the fifth inning - and struck out five.

Suns relievers Justin Phillabaum, Ryan Harrison and Robby Jacobsen allowed one run on four hits in five innings. Jacobsen, a first baseman, allowed one hit in his inning of work.
