Action movie 'Tropic Thunder' filled with laughs

August 26, 2008|By SALLY NEWLIN / Pulse Correspondent

So you think you've seen the best comedy of the year? Think again.

"Tropic Thunder" (rated R) is the newest comedy to hit cinemas this month - and is probably one of the best comedies of this year.

The film follows three popular and rich actors (Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr. and Jack Black) who are cast in a film about an Army unit on a mission in Southeast Asia. The film is based on a book by the survivor, Sgt. Four Leaf Tayback (Nick Nolte), who's on the film set.

During filming, the three actors come to realize that it's not a film - it's real warfare - and that they'll have to fight like true soldiers if they want to survive.

The movie has many good points, such as good humor by actors Ben Stiller ("The Heartbreak Kid," "ZooLander"), Robert Downey Jr. ("Iron Man") and Jack Black ("School of Rock," "Kung Fu Panda"). Stiller also directs, co-writes and co-produces the film. Together, all three of these men create great humor that makes you laugh so hard, you'll cry a hundred times.

It also has a great bit of action to keep you going and good storyline. The one bad point I saw was that there was so much cursing, it made me ill. I don't know how people feel about cursing, but there is a limit to cursing. Other than that, the whole movie was fantastic. So if you haven't gone to the theater to see it yet, then head on over.

"Tropic Thunder" is worth every penny you'll pay to see it.
