Man hurt after falling off High Rock overlook

August 26, 2008

CASCADE - A man was injured Monday when he reportedly fell 15 to 20 feet off the rock face at the High Rock overlook, emergency responders said.

By the time rescue crews arrived, the man was back up on top of the rock, said James Ulrich, assistant chief of Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services. The man was taken to Washington County Hospital with moderate injuries, Ulrich said.

"They weren't critical, but they weren't minor," Ulrich said of the man's injuries.

Emergency officials did not release the man's name.

The fall was reported at about 8 p.m. The Leitersburg Volunteer Fire Co., Franklin County, Pa., ambulance and special operations crews, and a Maryland State Police helicopter also responded, a Washington County Emergency Services dispatcher said.
