Two local students receive Chick-fil-A $1,000 scholarships

The Chick-fil-A chain has awarded National Leadership scholarships to Amy Shepherd of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Elizabeth Higdon of Hagerstown.

Both Higdon and Shepherd received the scholarship from the Chick-fil-A franchised operator at the restaurant in Hagerstown.

Higdon is studying biblical counseling at Bob Jones University.

Shepherd is studyng business at South University.

Their scholarships bring to 18 the number of team members from that store to receive the honor.

Each $1,000 scholarship helps support the higher education goals of restaurant employees, the company said in a news release.

Shank receives OfficeMax award

Robert J. Shank Jr. has received an OfficeMax scholarship, awarded to a full-time student in the John L. Grove College of Business at Shippensburg University.

Shank, the son of Robert and Rene Shank of Waynesboro, Pa., is a 2004 graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School.


He is a senior majoring in information technology for business education.

Hough receives Shippensburg U. award

Logan A. Hough has received the Shippensburg University Alumni Board Legacy Scholarship, awarded to an incoming freshman with a relationship to a Shippensburg University graduate.

He also was awarded a Lynn G. and Evelyn R. Walck Memorial Scholarship.

Hough, the son of Andrew and Cheryl Hough of Waynesboro, Pa., is a 2008 graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School.

He plans to major in physics/pre-engineering.
