Shorebirds use easy way to top Suns

August 23, 2008

The Delmarva Shorebirds didn't seem to have any plans for Friday night.

They seemingly took their time getting around the bases to get the job done.

Delmarva used walks and singles to build three rallies and settled in behind the pitching of starter Nathan Nery to claim a 6-1 victory over the Suns at Municipal Stadium.

The Shorebirds chipped away at the Suns while Nery allowed no runs on two hits to net his fifth win in eight decisions.

Ricardo Pecina made his second appearance for Hagerstown, going 4 1/3 innings in the start, while allowing two runs on six hits.

Delmarva jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third by playing station-to-station baseball.

Pedro Florimon led off with a walk and moved to second on Matt Angle's single before both runners advanced on Ryan Adams' sacrifice bunt.

With two outs, Joe Nowicki walked to load the bases before Anthony Martinez's two-run single.

Delmarva added a run in the sixth on three singles, the third by Angle for the RBI.

The Shorebirds closed their scoring in the seventh on three singles and two Suns errors for three runs and a 6-0 lead.

The Suns got their only run in the an RBI single by Sean Rooney.
