Operation READ WV gives to community

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Friends in Action of the Eastern Panhandle, a nonprofit agency that assists low-income families who are working to move out of poverty, was able to give something back to local organizations in the Eastern Panhandle thanks to a book drive called Operation READ WV.

Katie Benson, a VISTA volunteer working at Friends in Action in Shepherdstown, approached community organizations that had given FIAEP referrals or support in the past. Benson gathered books at a book drive conducted during her annual VISTA conference in Charleston, W.Va., in mid-July. When she returned, she delivered books from Operation READ WV to Shepherdstown Public Library, CCAP, Jefferson County Community Ministries, and New Street United Methodist Church.

Friends in Action of the Eastern Panhandle assists low-income families to build self sufficiency and improve their lives.
