Hair salon collects items for shelter

August 21, 2008

The Holiday Hair salon, at 1640 Wesel Blvd., in Hagerstown, is holding a drive to collect items for the Humane Society of Washington County.

Salon manager Margie McGrath said the salon chooses a charity each month to donate to and the month of August it is the animal shelter.

"We are all aware of the economic downturn and the increase in pets being taken to the shelter because of people losing their homes," McGrath said. "We thought we could help make the transition easier for the animals if we provided them with toys and goodies."

Each time a customer donates an animal-related item to the collection box they receive $1 off any service.

A box full of items was collected by the shelter staff on Tuesday, illustrating how eager the stylists and customers at Holiday Hair are to help the shelter animals.
