Waynesboro water filtration plant wins national award

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - The Waynesboro Water Filtration Plant became the first Pennsylvania recipient of the Area-Wide Optimization (AWOP) Award on Aug. 4.

S. Leiter Pryor, utilities director for Waynesboro borough, accepted the award from Jason Minnich from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. Also accepting the award was Gordon Cruickshanks, an operations manager for the borough.

AWOP is a national filter plant optimization effort among 22 states in partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency, the Association of State Drinking Water Administrators and water suppliers, according to a news release.

About 14 of the 255 large filter plants that participate in the program were recognized for their achievements, the news release stated.
