TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 462 of Smithsburg held its weekly meeting at St. Paul's in Smithsburg. The chapter welcomed a new member to its group.
After weigh-in, the members applauded the "losers" and encouraged the "gainers." Hopefully everyone will return next week with a loss as the chapter strives for a "no gain week."
The program this week will be on the 100 healthiest and most fulfilling foods in the grocery store.

Workshop
Shelby Penn with Edward Jones will host a free investment workshop Sept. 4, 11, 18 and 25, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Smithsburg Library, 20 E. Water St. Refreshments will be provided.

Class of 1973
The SHHS class of 1973 is planning its 35-year reunion. The reunion will be held Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Potomac Fish and Game Club, Downsville. Plans include dinner and music with a luau theme. Also, the class is planning a cruise, leaving from Baltimore on Oct. 25 for Bermuda aboard Royal Caribbean's Grandeur of the Seas. Information concerning both events will be mailed to class members.

Smithsburg High PTSA fundraiser
The Smithsburg High School PTSA will conduct its annual fundraiser with the opening of school. The fundraiser will be the sale of the Bonus Book.
The cost of the book will be $30. It provides coupons for area businesses in Washington and Franklin counties.
Books will be available for order through Sept. 15. The books are good from Sept. 15 through Dec. 31. Contact the school at 301-766-8337 to place an order.
