Middleway, W.Va., woman wins gas tax giveaway contest

August 20, 2008

MIDDLEWAY, W.Va. - Amanda Grantham, of Middleway in Jefferson County, W.Va., was chosen as the fifth winner of West Virginians for Better Transportation's Gas Tax Giveaway.

Grantham was randomly selected from more than 3,500 entrants to the contest thus far and will receive a $250 gasoline debit card.

The group launched the contest on July 7. The prize is intended to cover a person's average state gasoline taxes for a one-year period, which is $250.

Grantham pays much less than that average. She drives approximately 20 miles per day, getting an average of 30 miles per gallon. With the $250 prize, Grantham will be able to cover more than three years of her state gasoline taxes.
