August 20, 2008

A Hagerstown man faces charges after police said he stabbed a woman in the neck Sunday morning.

Morgan M. Spiker, 25, of 429 B E. Washington St., was charged with two counts each of first-degree assault, second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.

The incident happened at about 6 a.m. Sunday at Spiker's East Washington Street apartment, Hagerstown Police Officer W.D. Oates wrote in an application for charges. Spiker's roommate, Jonathan Lee Monninger, and Monninger's friend, Casey Yeakle, told Oates that Spiker stabbed Yeakle in the neck with a kitchen knife and attempted to stab Monninger during an argument that began when Spiker called Monninger a derogatory name, Oates wrote.

Yeakle was taken to Washington County Hospital, where she refused treatment, Oates wrote.

Spiker was being held at Washington County Detention Center Monday on $350,000 bond, court records show.
