August 18, 2008

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. -- A Shippensburg, Pa., man died early Sunday when the car he was driving struck a utility pole on Spring Road, west of Fayetteville, authorities said.

Samuel Walls Jr., 31, was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:38 a.m., Franklin County coroner Jeffrey R. Conner said in a news release.

Walls was driving west on Spring Road in a 1999 Chevrolet Lumina when he crested a hill west of Skelly Road, lost control and struck a utility pole on the south side of the road with the driver's-side door at about 4 a.m., Conner said. Walls was not wearing a seat belt, Pennsylvania State Police said.

The cause of death was multiple blunt-force trauma, Conner said.

The Fayetteville Fire Department and the Fayetteville Ambulance Co. assisted at the scene, police said.
