detours to be posted

August 18, 2008|By JOSHUA BOWMAN

FUNKSTOWN -- The five-month closure of a one-lane bridge in Funkstown will start Tuesday, as workers begin repairing the historic East Oak Ridge Drive bridge.

East Oak Ridge Drive will be closed to traffic from Oak Ridge Place to North Westside Avenue while the stone-arch bridge is repaired.

Detour signs will be posted to redirect traffic onto Frederick Street, East Wilson Boulevard and South Potomac Street.

Repair work is scheduled to continue through Jan. 15.

The county has given the project's contractor, Building Systems Inc., financial incentives to finish early and disincentives for finishing late.

The Washington County Commissioners in early July awarded a $1.24 million contract to Building Systems Inc. to repair the bridge.
