CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. -- A pedestrian was stuck by a car and killed on the Charles Town Bypass on Sunday night near the U.S. 340 interchange, said a Jefferson County Sheriff's Department spokesman.

Police and emergency medical crews were on the scene at about 11 p.m. and were questioning the driver of the car, Sgt. Victor Lupis said.

Lupis said he could not identify the man or the driver of the car at the time.

The man was still in the eastbound lanes of the bypass with a sheet covering his body. A white baseball cap was laying about 30 feet from the body.

The interchange is near the Sheetz convenience store along East Washington Street.
