Michael S. Conrad graduated magna cum laude from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Mass., on May 10.

He received a bachelor of music degree in performance (bass guitar.)

He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Victor L. Conrad of Hagerstown.

A 1989 graduate of Williamsport High School, Conrad received a bachelor of science degree in mass communication from Towson State University in Towson, Md., in 1993.

After graduation, he worked as a disc jockey at WQCM in Hagerstown until he moved to Rockville, Md. There he attended the Omega School of Recording Arts and Sciences and graduated in 1997. While living in Rockville, he worked as a disc jockey at a local radio station and also worked part time at Borders.

In January 2005, Conrad was accepted as a freshman at Berklee College of Music in Boston. At Berklee, he was a dean's list student. He was a disc jockey on the Berklee Internet Radio Network (the BIRN) and had his own weekly two-hour radio show, "The Melting Pot."


While attending college, Conrad was employed as production manager and graphic artist for a mid-Atlantic food service magazine. Since graduation, he has continued in these positions.

He lives in the Boston area where he is pursuing a career in music.

Courtney Dawn Mongan, of Hagerstown, graduated in May from the University of Maryland, University College, Adelphi, Md., with a bachelor of science degree in psychology with a human resources management minor. She was named to the dean's list for the fall and spring semesters.

She is a 1999 North Hagers-town High School graduate.

She is the daughter of Dawn Lowenhaupt and Michael Mongan and step-daughter of William Lowenhaupt, all of Hagerstown.

She has been employed since 2004 with Wright-Gardner Insurance as a licensed insurance agent.

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. - Joseph C. Reed of Smithsburg graduated from Geneva College on May 12 with a bachelor of science degree in engineering.

He is a 2003 graduate of Grace Academy.

He is the son of Jeffrey and Mary Reed of Smithsburg.

ANDOVER, Mass. - Max L. Silverstein of Middletown, Md., has been named to the honor roll for the spring term at Phillips Academy, also known as Andover.

He is in the class of 2011.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Lori Beth Dormo of Middletown, Md., graduated June 3 from the Art Institute of Charlotte with a bachelor of arts degree in fashion marketing and management.

Local Drummer and South Hagerstown High School senior Craig Hammond took third place marching with the Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps at the Drum Corps International World Finals Aug. 8 to 10 in Indianapolis, Ind.

Finishing with a score of 96.05, the Jersey Surf unit finished behind second place Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets and winner Blue Devils "B," both from California.

In addition to units from all over the U.S., there were groups from Japan, Holland and Canada as well.

The Jersey Surf is headquartered in Camden County, N.J.

This was Craig's first year with Jersey Surf and the world competition.
