Missing Md. woman found dead in W.Va.

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia State Police are investigating what they say could be a homicide in Jefferson County.

Edna Mae Trout, 57, of Mount Airy, Md., was found dead Friday about 4 p.m. in her van off Bloomery Road near the Millville power station, police said.

Police described Trout's wounds as "severe," but have not released any more information about the nature of the wounds or how she died.

"We're in the initial phases of this investigation, and we don't want to say too much that it would compromise the investigation," state police Capt. Rob Blair said Saturday.

The cause of death is being investigated, and Trout's body has been taken to the West Virginia State Medical Examiner in Charleston, Blair said.

"As with any unattended death, we're going to investigate it as a homicide until we can prove otherwise," Blair said.

Blair said the autopsy could be finished this weekend or early next week.

Trout had been reported missing by her son after she did not return home from work Thursday.
