Hagerstown man charged in shooting

victim listed in serious condition

A Hagerstown resident was charged Thursday in connection with an early morning shooting in the 200 block of North Locust Street, the Hagerstown Police Department said.

Wilvon Raleigh, 22, of 241 N. Locust St., was charged with one count each of first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, use of a handgun in a crime of violence, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and discharging a firearm in the city, Detective Tammy Jurado said.

The victim, who was shot in the arm around 1 a.m., was taken to Washington County Hospital, Jurado said. The woman was in serious condition Thursday night, a University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center spokeswoman said.

The shooting occurred in the area of Raleigh's residence, police said.

Raleigh was being held Thursday night at the Washington County Detention Center on $35,000 bond, a spokesman there said.
