Tastes and Sounds of the Town planned

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -Friends in Action of the Eastern Panhandle will hold its second annual "Tastes and Sounds of the Town" fundraising event on Saturday, Sept. 13. More than 15 of the area's best restaurants will participate, each providing a signature dish. Popular local musicians will perform throughout the evening. This year will feature a display of artwork depicting scenes of Shepherdstown, Martinsburg and Charles Town by area artists, which also will be for sale.

Friends in Action of the Eastern Panhandle provides mentor teams to help low-income families set and achieve self-sufficiency goals.

Buy tickets early for Taste of the Town

The 2008 REACH Caregivers' Taste of the Town and Benefit Auction is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 5, at Hagerstown Community College's Athletic Recreation and Community Center, Robinwood Drive, east of Hagerstown.


Sponsor a table between now and Monday, Sept. 1, and be entered for a surprise drawing on the night of the event.

Volunteers needed

FREDERICK, Md. - The Frederick Soup Kitchen, operated by Frederick Community Action Agency is in need of volunteers to staff the soup kitchen and serve food to homeless individuals and needy families. The Frederick Soup Kitchen serves a free evening meal, seven days a week.

Volunteers are needed from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday to serve prepared meals and then clean up. Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age and volunteers are especially needed on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
