Top Tomatoes

Jim's tomatoes

Jim Morgan grew these two large 3-pound tomatoes at his home on National Pike near Clear Spring. He said he tried something different this year when he planted multiple Beefsteak tomato seeds together.

Really big one

Ed Beard is shown with a 4.8-pound tomato (and he did weigh it) harvested Aug. 7 from his garden on Mapleville Road in Boonsboro. He said the Heirloom tomato is often referred to as an "ugly" tomato. It has a typical pinkish-red color, low in acid, firm and meaty, and has an unmatched flavor to any other type - mild and sweet. He said a really great tomato is all about the taste. Size comparision was equivalent to that of a cantalope.
