Pen Mar Park

The Dave Winter Group will be featured Sunday as the Pen Mar Park summer concert series continues.

This will be the first time this trio from Dover, Pa., has performed at the park. The band will play from 2 to 5 p.m.

Ice cream social

The Smithsburg Historical Society will hold its annual ice cream social on Wednesday, Aug. 20. The festivities will begin at 6 p.m. at the museum at 20 E. Water St. in Smithsburg. There will be entertainment and peach ice cream will be featured.


The Smithsburg High School PTSA will be conducting its annual fundraiser with the opening of school.

The "Bonus Book" will be sold as the fundraiser. The cost will be $30. The book offers coupons from area businesses from Washington County and Franklin County, Pa. Books will be available for order through Sept. 15. The books are good from Sept. 15 yo Dec. 31. Call the school at 301-766-8337 to place an order.



TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 462, Smithsburg, held its weekly meeting at Veterans Park in Smithsburg.

The chapter usually meets at St. Paul's Church, but last week Bible school was in session so the TOPS meeting had to be moved.

After weigh-in and a short meeting, the group members walked around the park for extra exercise. This is the second time the chapter has walked around the park.

The meeting will move back to St. Paul's Church Thursday, where Sandy will lead the program.

Weigh-in is at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting is from 6 to 7 p.m. All are welcome.
