Maryland State Police release results of sobriety checkpoint

Maryland State Police on Aug. 8 conducted a sobriety checkpoint on U.S. 40 at Crestview Drive.

Fifteen state police personnel were used in the opertion, according to an e-mailed release.

 During the operation, 652 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, 12 vehicles were identified for further testing and one person was charged with driving while impaired, police said. Three people were charged with possession of marijuana, police said.

State police also were deployed in the immediate area of the checkpoint to conduct saturation patrol to identify impaired drivers. During the checkpoint operation, Corporal C. Miller conducted a seat belt compliance survey of all vehicles entering the checkpoint and determined that 97.6 percent of drivers were seabelted and 97.1 percent of passengers were wearing seat belts.
