Bridging the gap

August 13, 2008|By JENNIFER FITCH

Workers from G.C. & F.C. Wagman Inc. of York, Pa., weld pilings Tuesday afternoon at the future site of the bridge that will take Washington Township Boulevard over the Antietam Creek near Country Club Road in Waynesboro, Pa.

Crews have had difficulty hitting solid rock for some of the 144 pilings, and they are expected to submit a change work order for a larger hammer. Lobar Site Development Inc. of Dillsburg, Pa., has told Washington Township officials that the $2.1 million project will be finished by the end of April 2009, according to Carroll Sturm, chairman of the township supervisors.
