'My Dog Can Do That' competition set for Friday in Fairplay

August 11, 2008

Friday marks another in a series of "My Dog Can Do That" tournaments held at Peaceable Paws, LLC this summer.

The dog training center is at 17816 Spielman Road in Fairplay. The center will host the tournament from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The tournament is open to the public.

For $10, canines and their human counterparts compete with other teams to perform simple to complex behaviors such as "Wag Your Tail," to "Stay While Your Human Gets Down on All Fours and Crawls 5 Feet Away" and to "Say Your Prayers."

Only positive reinforcement methods and equipment are allowed at the event. All proceeds from this event will be donated to the Humane Society of Washington County.

This is part of a series of events that occur monthly at Peaceable Paws.

"We intend to do this every third Friday of the month until further notice," said Pat Miller, center spokesperson.

"Contestants can win prizes and earn points toward the year-end MDCDT championship event."

Spectators are welcome and all are encouraged to give the game a try (no aggressive dogs, please.)
