Credit union opens 'smart' teller machine

August 10, 2008

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Patriot Federal Credit Union recently opened a "smart" automated teller machine at the corner of West Queen and West Loudon streets near the Southgate Shopping Center in Chambersburg.

The state-of-the-art ATM will provide instant acknowledgment of cash and check deposits, and provide members with faster funds availability.

Checks are fed into the machine, without an envelope, where they are imaged and printed on the receipt. Up to 100 unfolded bills can be deposited, with cash facing in any direction. The ATM reads each bill, giving a breakdown on receipts for each denomination.

The envelope-free ATM is designed to fight fraud.
