Hancock hires new police officer

August 08, 2008

HANCOCK -- The Hancock Police Department has hired former Washington County Sheriff's Department Deputy James Woods, Hancock Police Department Chief T.J. Buskirk said.

Woods has more than 30 years of public safety experience at the federal, state and local levels and has previously held positions dealing with hazardous materials, explosives disposal, clandestine drug labs and criminal investigations, Buskirk said. He is also a certified police instructor.

Woods began Aug. 1, bringing the department's staff to three full-time officers and one part-time officer, Buskirk said.

The town decided to hire a new officer after officer Scott Wolfe went from full-time to part time in June in order to take a position with the Hagerstown Fire Department, Hancock Mayor Daniel A. Murphy said.
