Man hurt in motorcycle crash



A Washington County man sustained minor injuries Thursday night in a motorcycle crash on Resh Road west of Hagerstown, the Washington County Sheriff's Department said.

Gary Smith, 38, of Church Hill Court, lost control on a curve at about 8:36 p.m., about 100 feet west of U.S. 63, ran into some gravel and struck a tree, Deputy Thomas Routzahn said.

Smith was taken to Washington County Hospital with minor injuries, Routzahn said.




Copper stolen from historic Dahlgren Chapel



BOONSBORO -- About $7,000 worth of copper was stolen this week from Dahlgren Chapel, located on the Frederick County-Washington County line on U.S. 40 alternate, Maryland State Police said in a news release.

All of the new and refurbished down spouting was taken from the historic chapel sometime between noon Tuesday and 6 p.m. Thursday, police said.

Help sought to locate missing teen



The Washington County Sheriff's Department is requesting the public's assistance in finding a 15-year-old girl who has been missing for more than five months.

Katelyn Neil was reported missing Feb. 29 after she ran away from the Leitersburg Pike movie theater, and her whereabouts are unknown, Sgt. Roy Harsh said in a news release.

She might be in Hagerstown or the surrounding areas or might have gone to the Prince George's County or Baltimore area, deputies said.

She was described as white, about 5 feet 3 inches tall, weighing about 180 pounds with shoulder-length brown hair, deputies said.

She is on medication for a medical condition and her mother is concerned for her welfare, deputies said.

Sobriety checkpoint set for Hagerstown area



Maryland State Police will conduct a sobriety checkpoint in the Hagerstown area Friday as part of the Smooth Operator program, the department said in a news release.

In addition, troopers will be monitoring for speeding through Saturday on interstates and on roadways with high accident rates and will have DUI patrols throughout the county on Friday, the department said.




Letterkenny Township home forcibly entered



ORRSTOWN, Pa. -- Someone forcibly entered a home Monday on Community Road in Letterkenny Township, Pennsylvania State Police said in a news release.

The break-in happened between noon and 1 p.m., police said. Police did not know if any items were taken.




Burglaries investigated in Greencastle



GREENCASTLE, Pa. -- Greencastle Police are investigating two burglaries that happened last week at homes with unlocked back doors, the department said in a news release.

Between midnight at 6 a.m. July 29, about $145 worth of items were stolen from a home in the 100 block of Addison Avenue, police said.

Between 11 p.m. July 29 and 2:50 a.m. July 30, about $40 worth of items were stolen from a home in the first block of North Linden Avenue while the resident was sleeping, police said.

Bike stolen from Greencastle porch



GREENCASTLE, Pa. -- A bike was stolen last month from a back porch in the 100 block of East Franklin Street, Greencastle Police said in a news release.

The theft happened between 6:30 p.m. July 12 and noon July 12, police said. The bike was a white Trek with green and blue lettering, police said.

Bicyclist hurt in Greencastle



GREENCASTLE, Pa. -- A man was injured July 29 when the bicycle he was riding was squeezed off the road by a pickup truck on East Baltimore Street, Greencastle Police said in a news release.

The man was headed west on Baltimore Street and hit a curb as he attempted to get out of the way of the truck and a parked vehicle between the Greencastle Post Office and Wolfe's Bakery, police said.

The truck was a maroon Toyota Tacoma, police said.

Firefighters respond to Berkeley County house fire



BERKELEY COUNTY, W.Va. -- Firefighters in Berkeley County on Wednesday morning responded to a house fire on Midnoon Drive, a Berkeley County Emergency Services dispatcher said.

No one was injured in the fire, which was reported at 4:18 a.m.




Washington County Sheriff's Department lists incidents



The Washington County Sheriff's Department responded Tuesday to the following incidents:

· At 2:40 a.m., a theft was reported at Widmeyer Park in Hancock. A bicycle was taken.

· At 9 a.m., breaking and entering was reported in the 15200 block of National Pike. An apartment was broken into and DVDs were taken. 

· At 11 a.m., auto theft was reported at Hagerstown Ford. A customer's 2008 gray F350 was stolen. 

· At 12:20 p.m., theft was reported in the 13700 block of Pennsylvania Avenue. Scrap steel was taken. 

· At 1:20 p.m., theft was reported at Eby Lawn & Garden. Cash was taken from the business. 

· AT 1:45 p.m. malicious destruction of property was reported in the 900 block of Anteater Drive. 

· At 4:20 p.m., theft was reported in the 100 block of South Valley Drive. Four rings were taken from a home. 

· At 5 p.m., theft from a motor vehicle was reported in the 16700 block of Taylors Landing Road. A rear registration plate, Maryland tag 5EFR55, was taken. 

· At 10:30 p.m., theft was reported at Youngstoun Apartments. A wallet was taken from the pool area.
