Habitat for Humanity to bless Faith House on Saturday

August 08, 2008

Churches in Washington County sold 2-by-4s to benefit the Faith House being built by Habitat for Humanity of Washington County.

The 2-by-4s were in the form of Popsicle sticks and tongue depressors.

Purchasers had the opportunity to write a house blessing, sign their name, or draw a picture on the provided card; all messages will be written in magic marker on the inner framework of the house prior to the installation of insulation and drywall.

Local churches and many individuals will participate in the official house blessing - when the messages are recorded on the walls - at 9 a.m. Saturday at 1024 Lanvale St., Hagerstown.

Each church sold the lumber for $2.50 per 2-by-4 to raise approximately $1,500 for Habitat's Faith House. Participation in the Lumber for the Lord program is encouraged after Saturday's event. Messages after this date will be printed in a keepsake album for the new homeowners.
