August 08, 2008

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Police have charged a Chambersburg man with one of two robberies last week of the M&T Bank branch on Philadelphia Avenue.

Charles M. Konefsky, 50, of 5275 Lockaber Ave., was charged with robbery and theft for the July 28 holdup of the bank. He was arraigned on Monday before Magisterial District Judge Kelly Rock and jailed on $50,000 bail, according to Rock's office.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 12, according to Rock's office.

At about 8:40 a.m. on July 28, a heavyset white male entered the bank and demanded cash, police said. The man was last seen running through the parking lot, police said.

Franklin County Crime Solvers had offered a reward for information leading to an arrest in the robbery.

Police obtained a search warrant and went to Konefsky's home on Monday. Konefsy told police where to find the clothing he used in the robbery and the bag contained the remainder of the money, about $3,000, police said.
