Stutes sharp as BlueClaws blank Suns

August 06, 2008

Lakewood starter Michael Stutes struck out 12 in seven sharp innings and the BlueClaws shut out the Hagerstown Suns 4-0 on Wednesday in the first game of a four-game South Atlantic League series at Municipal Stadium.

Stutes improved to 3-0 and lowered his ERA to 0.47. He allowed three hits, and Christopher Kissock finished off the four-hitter by striking out three in his two innings of work.

Suns starter Colton Willems (5-9) took the loss, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk in five solid innings that simply weren't good enough with Stutes shutting Hagerstown down.

Lakewood opened the scoring with two runs in the fifth. Travis Mattair hit a one-out single and T.J. Warren doubled to left to score Mattair. Luis Ramon Arzeno singled to left to score Warren.
