Smithsburg Councilman Jerome Martin scheduled for surgery after fall from roof

August 06, 2008

SMITHSBURG -- Smithsburg councilman and contractor Jerome Martin was on the job Monday when he fell from a roof and was seriously injured, according to his daughter, Colleen Martin.

Smithsburg clerk/treasurer Betsy Martin said Tuesday the longtime councilman broke both both wrists, his collarbone, a vertebrae in his neck and some of his ribs.

"Dad's having surgery this morning on his wrists," his daughter said at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. She said he was in a lot of pain from his injuries.

The councilman's wife, Terri Callamari, was at the beach when her husband was injured. Colleen Martin said her mother came home Tuesday.

His condition this morning at Washington County Hospital was not available, a spokeswoman said.

An eight-year veteran on the town council and proponent of recycling for the town, Jerome Martin owns Smithsburg-based Mar-Cal Construction Co.
